What are tools and widgets?

Getting startedAll platforms

Tools contain widgets. Once you add a widget to your dashboard, it keeps itself up to date.

  1. Tool: something you install from the Store, such as "Weather" or "Stocks". It decides where the data comes from and what its widgets look like.
  2. Widget: a specific piece of content from a tool, such as "Now" or "5-Day Forecast" from Weather. A tool can offer several.
  3. Dashboard: the main page of the app, where your widgets live. You can add the same widget more than once with different parameters, for example two weather widgets for two cities. You can also create several dashboards to group your widgets. See "Use multiple dashboards".
Widgets can go on your home screen tooWidgets on your dashboard can be added to your home screen, so you can see them without opening the app. See "Add a widget to your home screen".
