What does "Credential needed" mean?

Common issuesAll platforms

A credential is a key you create on another service, or an account authorization. Some tools need your own account to get data, such as your to-dos on GitHub, sales data in App Store Connect, or search data for your own website. Only you have access to this data, so the tool needs a credential from you.

Credentials stay on your devicesCredentials are kept in your system's secure storage. They're sent only to the service you authorized and never included in backups. With Sync across devices on, a credential's name and the websites it's used for sync to your other devices, but not its value. Only if you turn on Sync keys and credentials is the value encrypted and synced too, and we can't decrypt it. Services you connected by signing in need to be connected once on each device. You can delete a credential at any time.

How to connect one:

  1. Tap "Credential needed" on the widget to open that tool's connect sheet directly, or go to Me › Credentials.
  2. Paste your key as prompted, or sign in to that service to authorize access.
  3. Go back to your dashboard. The widget gets its data again automatically.

You can also skip it. Some tools fall back to public data, with a lower usage limit and no private content. Widgets that can't work without a credential keep showing "Credential needed". That's not an error.

"Expired — reconnect": the key has usually been revoked or has expired on the provider's side, or the account authorization is no longer valid. Tap it to reconnect; there's no need to delete the widget.

Free can save 1 credential, and one credential can be used by several tools. See "Free and Pro".
