Are tools safe?

Privacy & safetyAll platforms

Anyone can publish a tool, so the app protects you in two ways.

  1. Checked before install: every tool from the Store carries a Numable platform signature and integrity information for each file. If the check fails, it isn't installed, even if only a single byte was changed.
  2. Isolated after install: a tool can only access the websites listed on its install panel. It can't read other tools' data or change system settings.

Tools you create yourself aren't signed and are labeled "Local · unsigned".

Take a look at the install panelWherever you open an install link from, the app first shows its own install panel listing the websites the tool will access and whether it needs a credential. Review it before you install. When auto-update finds a new version that would access new websites or use new credentials, you're asked first too.

A signature proves that a tool was published through Numable and hasn't been tampered with since. It doesn't mean we vouch for its content. If you see something suspicious, please report it.
